Croatia: A Heavy-hearted Farewell

The final day of an absolutely fantastic trip. Following through with my newfound love of being the first one out and about the city, we were up with the sunrise and heading into town.

Within city walls

You can tell where people touch for good luck

Shame! Ding ding. Watch Game of Thrones?

Farewell to Dubrovnik.
Farewell to Croatia.
I definitely left a bit of my travel heart here.

Croatia: Lokrum Island

When in Dubrovnik, PLEASE take the time to catch the ferry out to Lokrum Island. It is worth spending a few hours of your life enjoying this beautiful slice of heaven on earth. I did not know what to expect, as I don't really do the "relaxation" thing, especially sitting out on the beach, and things along those lines. This proved that belief about myself completely wrong.

The "beaches" here are not sand, but just as awesome. Just ledges to climb up and jump off from.

The view from our ledge

The cave at the end of our ledge

Truly turquoise.

What was really awesome about the island was all of the peacocks, peahens, and baby chicks! They were everywhere and they were loud. I had never seen one fly before, much less be nested 20 feet up in a tree.

I would definitely come back here ANYTIME.

Croatia: The Road from Split to Dubrovnik

On our journey from Split to Dubrovnik we had a few good stops.

Fortress of Klis.

Hiking the walls of Ston (that is not a typo where an "e" is missing). I wish that the temperature was more cooperative such that we could have hiked the 3-5km wall, but it was too hot as it was mid-day, so we had to opt for the shorter hike that was nothing. It was pretty, but no challenge.

Hello Dubrovnik.
Due to booking our trip so late, our accommodation was a 15 minute walk outside of the city. Not a big deal, except for the timing. 15 minutes to walk to the city, 30 minutes to walk back from, due to the hills. It wasn't too huge of a deal, but something to thing about if you book outside of city center = Hills, it is ALL hills. Beautiful landscape to walk though...

Yeah, it was really hard to have to do this walk to and from the city....

If you watch Games of Thrones, you may recognize the landscape.
